How to make a Popsicle Stick Rotating Steps Folding Ladder

Hi everyone! Here is another mini tutorial to continue the three part serie of handmade miniatures that were apart of the Acts 2:46 project.

Awhile back I shared an instagram story progress picture of making this ladder for the first time. So, I’m showing you how to make a popsicle stick rotating steps folding ladder. I hope that you find inspiration in the Lord Jesus Christ. Before we begin, make sure you check out the measurement guideline below where I’m suggesting to use a cutting healing mat or ruler but it isn’t necessary. If you’re ready to go ahead to making, you can skip through this section onto the step-by-steps.

Measurement Guideline

Measurement Guideline ⭐

⭐ If you have a cutting healing mat, it can be helpful to use to follow this tutorial because I use it to give measurements as a guideline. However, it’s not necessary. when I made the miniature I didn’t measure at all.

System of units measurement: inches

Popsicle Sticks - 8 Total Paper Clips- 2 Total

6 pieces: 1 inch length Cut into 6 pieces of 1/8 inches

2 pieces : 2.1 inch height

Bag Twist Tie - 1 Total Rubber Bands- 2 Total

Cut into two equal pieces of Cut 6 pieces : ¼ inch length

length 5/16 inches

Gather your Materials and Let’s Get Started

  • Tacky glue

  • 8 Popsicle Sticks

  • 2 rubber bands

  • 6 craft jewelry beads of any kind

  • 1 Bag Twist Tie

  • 2 paper clips

  • Exacto knife tool

  • color paint of your choice

  • Wire cutter tool

  • Pencil

Let’s Make Step-By-Step

First, take six popsicle sticks and cut them with an exacto knife at length 1 inch each.

Next, take the 1 inch popsicle stick to sketch a a small gap line with a pencil down the middle of the popsicle stick. The width of this sketched out gap line should be 1/16 inch. With the exacto knife, cut halfway through the two lines we just sketched out. Gently carve out a 1mm depth pocket on the gap line. Only carve out the two pockets on the edges at length 1/8 inch. Repeat this step on all the popsicle sticks.

Now we’re ready to paint these six popsicle sticks. This step is optional. You can choose to leave them as they are. I chose to use black acrylic paint.

After peeling off the outer layer of the paper clips. Cut 6 pieces at length 1/8 inch.

Take one craft jewelry bead and put a small dab of glue on one end. Take one of the 1/8 inch paper clip insert it on the end of the bead we put glue. Repeat this step for all the 6 beads. Now glue all of these handles onto the edge pockets of 3 popsicle sticks.

Onto the folding ladder, take the two remaining popsicle sticks. Use the exacto knife to cut through the middle in half. Once you have four pieces, glue the top edge of two pieces together.

Now take the bag twist tie and cut it into 2 equal pieces of length 5/16 inch. Fold the piece you cut out in half and do the same for the other piece. Glue your two bag twist tie pieces onto the sides of the two ladder popsicle stick.

Use the other paper clip to make a handle for the top of the ladder. Take your wire cutter tool to cut off the buttom halves of the paper clip.

Once your paper clip handle is glued onto the top of the ladder use a pencil to lightly mark out where the rubber band holders will go using the popsicle stick pieces with handles as a guide to space out evenly and make the rubber band holders align horizontally.

Take the two rubber bands and cut 6 pieces at length ¼ inch. Glue onto the ladder surface where you put the mark outs. Let the rubber band holders completely dry.

Finally, insert your 3 pieces of popsicle stick with handles onto the rubber hands carefully. They should be able to rotate smoothly without falling out of the rubber band holder but if they do you can elongate the handle alittle bit until the bead reaches the rubber band holder.

And we’re done! We’ve made a simple and easy popsicle stick craft ladder where the steps can rotate and the ladder can fold. I really hope you enjoy making this popsicle stick ladder craft with me. See you on the next mini tutorial!
